Tropical rainforest restoration activities in Sarawak, Borneo

Since 1995, the Japan Malaysia Association has been carrying out tree-planting activities in the state of Sarawak on the island of Borneo at the request of the Sarawak State Government, with the aim of regenerating the tropical rainforest. To build a sustainable rainforest restoration program, we work with the participation and cooperation of local communities, engaging in maintenance work, seedling cultivation, and the inter-planting of native fruit trees.

Why We Protect the Tropical Rainforest

On the island of Borneo, the tropical rainforest is rapidly disappearing due to logging and the resulting slash-and-burn agriculture and forest fires. The loss of rainforest leads to more frequent natural disasters, accelerates global warming, and has serious environmental consequences. It is also a major cause of the extinction of countless plant and animal species.

Our Dream

The tropical rainforest, home to a vast diversity of life, is a precious treasure for all of humanity. By supporting rainforest regeneration through human hands, our dream is not only to help protect the global environment, but also to save the many forms of life that inhabit these forests.
