The Japan Malaysia Association, in partnership with the Nippon Foundation Volunteer Center, has launched a new project to regenerate the “Orangutan Forest.” Ahead of the project’s start, a delegation paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister of Malaysia and other senior officials.

From Wednesday, November 8 to Friday, November 10, 2023, Takakazu Ogawa, Chairman of the Japan Malaysia Association, and Director Takashi Moribayashi visited Malaysia together with Yohei Sasakawa, Chairman of The Nippon Foundation, and Kazuto Sawatari, Managing Director of the Nippon Foundation Volunteer Center. The visit included courtesy calls on Malaysian government officials and a press announcement.

On Thursday, November 9, the delegation paid a courtesy call on Nik Nazmi, Minister of Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change. The following day, Friday, November 10, a press conference with members of the media was held in the morning, followed by a courtesy call on Prime Minister Anwar at the Prime Minister’s Office in Putrajaya in the afternoon. Chairman Sasakawa introduced the Japan Malaysia Association’s activities in Sarawak to date, as well as the new “Orangutan Forest Restoration Project” that is being launched there. Prime Minister Anwar expressed his appreciation for the Association’s many years of rainforest restoration work and for this new initiative.
